The Atkinson diet known more commonly as the Atkins diet is a no carbs to low carb diet. Labelled as a very poor diet and a sham when it first came out it is interesting to see how many of the modern diets are nothing more then a variation of Atkinson diet. The common ground is that you can lose weight much easier with a low carb diet – the arguements exist on how much of a low carb diet, how much protein, and so on but nonetheless Atkinson was certainly onto something with his low carb idea. Health experts are divided about the dangers of this diet (but who which one of them doesn't have a vested interest?), dangerous or not, exactly correct or not, if you buy the Atkins diet book and actually follow what it says there is no doubt you will lose weight. So just from a weight loss point of view it has to get good marks.

The main thing to do is to stay away from processed foods including the sliced meats found in the deli section. Eggs are a mainstain on the low carb diet but other enjoyable eating on the low carb food list are: Steak, chicken, chicken wings (are my favorite), pork (which I don't like), salmon, tuna, most fish, turkey (is great and hardly any fat either), cheese, real butter, cream, nuts and some veges. I like breakfast omellette mixed with tomato, cheese, zucchini and mushrooms, yum! I could almost live off chicken wings they are fantastic, nuts are a great snack and of course who can beat a good steak?

The atkinsdiet remains one of the most effective weightloss diets decades after it's first inception and while many have their doubts about it, more and more of the principles behind the atkinsdiet have stood the test of time and now many low carb diets have entered the market place.
